Looking to upgrade but a problem with inputs

I'd like to upgrade from my Marantz SR-18EX Surround Sound Receiver to something more current. However, I have 2 Sony mass storage CD carousels which hold over 600 CD's combined. The problem is, they connect to my receiver via digital optical cables. From what I've read it seems high end units logically have many HDMI ports but I can't find one with any optical ports. Does anyone know of one or is this a losing battle?

Get an external DAC that accepts optical. DAC will have analog output to receiver. CD player to DAC to receiver. There is DAC forum to read.

Something to think about when choosing an AVR.

Most HT receivers have optical and coax a/v inputs along with HDMI. Unfortunately many of them do not allow using all the inputs. Often one or more of the HDMI inputs can be re-assigned to coax or optical. This lessens the number of inputs one can actually use. They don't usually mention this in the advertisements. You have to look closely at the back panel and read the labels.

It was for this reason I chose a Yamaha HTR when buying one for my bedroom. It has 6 HDMI inputs, four AV inputs (w/optical and coax) and two audio inputs. All the inputs are always available.

PS: It also has a 3.5mm front panel audio input a USB input and Bluetooth.

Any unit that has an internal DAC is going to have optical inputs, otherwise, you get yourself an external DAC.

Another simpler way. Usually CD player has analog output. RCA cables. Your new receiver might accept analog input.

You need to report the model numbers for CD players and proposed receiver.

Another way. Get a laptop. Rip your 600 CDs lossless. I had CD player like you. Too noisy. Clunk-clunk-clunk. Laptop is way better jukebox.
