Looking to upgrade from Sansui FR-D3

Looking to upgrade from my Sansui FR-D3. I picked up the Sansui at goodwill years back while I was in college. I had to clean it up with some deoxit and throw a new cartridge on which I chose a AT-VM95E. I also had to clean paint off the RCA connections...yes someone decided to attempt to paint this thing gray and not cover the connections. Its not a looker but its reliable and has been with me through multiples moves and housing situations. I plan to keep it regardless to use with a smaller Realistic vintage system im putting together for my office area.

With time I have been continually upgrading my system and recently was able to get a great deal on a Pro-ject Tube Box S2 lightly used from a trusted coworker who upgraded to replace a parasound zPhono that did not survive the recent move.

Im heavily debating what to upgrade to. Part of me thinks it would be fun to stay vintage and attempt to find a nice refurbished Dual 1214 or 1218. Another part of me isn't against getting into a newer nicer option like a Music Hall MMF-5 as ive seen a few used in the area or a mid level Pro-ject or Fluance offering. Not looking to break the bank but with 500+ records now I want to make a nice investment to further enjoy them. Trying to keep my budget around the $500-$800 and just get some opinions and ideas.

Thanks for the help!

What in particular are you unhappy with about your Sansui? Filling the empty space in it with putty or some clay-like compound might improve the sound of it.
