Loose Sony SA3ES tuner knob – sags against the bottom edge

Hi everyone,

I recently got this Sony ST-SA3ES tuner, but the large tuning knob is leaning / resting against the bottom edge (check the photo about the edge) where it rubs against the front panel. It feels loose and has gap/play at the top. The knob itself is completely straight, it just sags down. Otherwise everything works fine.

When I opened the top cover and pushed the small internal encoder PCB forward, the knob lifted up, aligned perfectly centered in the front panel opening, and rotated flawlessly without any friction.

Also does it look like a screw is missing from this hole, or is the set screw just sitting very deep inside?

Welcome to AK!

My guess would be that there is a nut holding the encoder itself to a front bulkhead. If this is correct, you will need to remove the knob to see the encoder nut and tighten it. My best guess from the picture of the knob is that there is a fairly deep-set hex set screw, but I can't guess at what size hex.
