Loose Transformer Wire AR-1500

I was replacing the filter caps today, and I'm not sure if the loose red wire was connected to maybe the left side Cap somehow, and it just came off while I was moving the Cap. .

Maybe it's just an unused wire. There wasn't any exposed wire coming out of the cableing, but it could have snapped off so I wanted to check before powering up again.

Are you referring to the Heathkit AR-1500?
Looks like either a clean break or it wasn't used, but I would expect that to have been capped if not in use. There also must be areas with broken wire lead strands if this in fact was used and has broken off.

With the black spiral band around the wire, it could be the center tap wire of a secondary winding on the power transformer, and the center tap is not needed in that particular piece of equipment's design, so it's left floating. Just my guess.

Thanks. I don't remember it being there when I took a mental note of the wires attached, so I'll fire it up with a dim bulb tester first but I imagine you're correct.

When you look at the end of that wire, does it have a clean looking cut on the end, or does the end look ragged, suggesting that it broke away from somewhere?

The cut was clean for sure.

I had cut the negative leg off the original filter cap with all the wires, and just resoldered it on as is to the new cap. I didn't notice the loose wire until after this, so I can't check now if there was an extra tab of metal on the piece I cut off.

Just checked, all good. So the wire was loose.

After cleanup fixed a bunch of issues, mostly button problems.

These Tuner lights are very low on some, is this a light bulb or power management issue? Can hardly see the tuner needle.

Maybe it's my eyes but the two lights closest to the bottom of the picture don't even appear to be on.

They're either dimly On or getting some backlight and Off. Will check out

Thr squelch knob needs to be all the way counter clockwise to get FM stations. Besides these issues it sounds amazing with some Genesis speakers.
