Lossless Streaming Comparisons.....

@daviddi922 MQA tracks that are mastered to 24/96 require only 1 unfold (decode). This first unfold is done in MQA licenced software, i.e. the Tidal app.

Tracks that are mastered to 24/192 require 2 unfolds; first unfold is done in software (Tidal) and the second unfold requires MQA licenced hardware , i.e an MQA compatible DAC

Thank you for posting that. So will the 3.5mm jack of my android phone play the first unfold?

Or will I need to use the USB c port?

From my understanding is that with a traditional dac and say a laptop as your source, wouldnt you need to get up to change the song/playlist etc? Or is there a piece that Im missing like a remote control app for Tidal or Qobuz that can control the songs playing from a laptop (or some other hardwired to your dac) source?

With Audirvana, I use their app on iOS to control everything. It will access your home library and Qobuz or Tidal ( depending on which you subscribe to). You can control from the app also which device it plays from. It is very handy and does the job. Personally, I prefer the Qobuz Audirvana plugin to Tidal. However, that is probably just my personal taste.
 
Personally I wouldn't waste money chasing mqa anymore. Only one streaming service uses it, and they've long been on shaky financial ground--they could close up shop without notice, or be acquired by another company who won't have any interest in paying mqa's licensing fees and drop support for it. The mqa discs are barely a blip on the radar as well, not in this world of true high-res downloads that are readily available from multiple sources. Just get a good-sounding streamer and DAC and don't worry about it. My DAC and Roon are both capable, but I bought the DAC because it sounds good, and have the capability turned fully off in Roon.
 
Question: is there a better set up I could have for improved sound quality than:

Amazon HD through iPod Touch 7 through USB through Musical Fidelity V90-DAC through my pre/power amp?

Not familiar with or sure of what any of your components/system sound like. Is there something specific you feel is lacking? Could be AMHD, iPod, DAC, pre/power amp or speakers are lacking individually or in any combination. :dunno: If you think it sounds good, just enjoy it! :thumbsup:

Seems like a pretty simple question to me
Can I do better than Amazon hd, or my I pod, or maybe a better dac for 200:dunno:

So does Amazon music still have to be controlled by the desktop app only or can it be controlled more like Spotify yet? I tried AMHD last year for a couple months and really liked the SQ but controlling it was no fun. The main thing I hated about it was that you couldn't save Artists and actually go to s location again to find them and look thru the artist catalog. Is it still like that? That was completely stupid in design.

No remote control like Spotify Connect for the PC. Can't help with saving artists or creating playlists as I don't typically do that. I do have 20+ songs saved in my auditioning playlist, though.
 
Hi everyone,
I've got a Innuos Zenith MK3 Streamer and use the Orange Squeeze Andoid App via my Samsung Note 10 phone and Android Tablet. I run this through a Topping D90 MQA DAC and Tidal is my Music provider. My question is: how do I get the MQA Masters through Orange Squeeze App?
I can't see it anywhere. All I can do is go in to Tidal itself and download the Album or Track in MQA to my favourites and the go to Orange Squeeze and play from there. Is this the only way of doing this?

When using Tidal embedded in Audirvana via the Remote app the album listings do not show the MQA symbol. It will show MQA in the expanded now playing window. Generally Tidal lists album versions newest first and that will be the MQA version, eg The Doors
