Lots of emails from greeting card companies

The past couple of weeks or so I've been getting a lot of emails from supposed online greeting card companies such as egreetings, Blue Mountain cards, and others. I've been receiving them on my email account that I specifically use for conducting business and Audiokarma only. I never subscribed to anything with that email account.

I thought that it may have been just me but my mother called last week and said she's been getting the same garbage. My wife is also. My isp has been filtering some of it out if it is suspected to be infected with a virus. Needles to say, I have not opened any of them. I just send them to the trash.

Has anyone else been experiencing this as of lately or seen anything on the news about a barrage of junk mail pretending to be from online greeting card companies?

This really sucks because this email account was spam free for years.

Thanks,
Paul

I used to get many of those (some unsolicited), and then one of them was a virus trojan. So now I delete them without a 2nd thought. Besides, I always looked at them as the "I'm too lazy"-way of sending a real greeting or birthday card.

That really sucks. My junk mail has actually been way down lately but it seems to go in spurts. I've never had spam from places like you are getting though...hope I didn't just jinx myself :)

WORMS, ACTIVE EXPLOITS, VULNERABILITIES & PATCHES
--Storm Worm Skips Attachments This Time
(July 24 & 26, 2007)
The level of activity of the Storm worm is on the upswing. More than
140 million email messages containing links to malicious web pages have
been sent out. The pages attempt to infect the computers of those who
visit them with the Storm worm. The email messages generally tell the
recipients that someone has sent an e-card and provides a link that will
purportedly allow them to view it.
A Storm attack earlier this month
sent the malware in an attachment; this attack is web-based.

Yep get several a day. I set my spam filter so if you're in my addrees book your mail goes to my inbox, if you're not it goes to a bulk mail box which I just empty without even opening.
