Loudspeaker measurements. What is really needed?

When in doubt, C4
Hi Guys,

I'm at the point where I have no way around buying a measurement kit in order to adjust my tri-amp setup at home. Goal is to adjust amp output and maybe some EQ in order to get the system fine tuned.
From searching around it's clear to have a calibrated microphone and so far PartsExpress seems to have what would be needed but what's not clear is, if I really need to get the OmniMic V2 with software or what the other alternatives would be. Background is, I don't need to make a living with the tool, for leisure only. Looking into some near field measurements to adjust the multiple ways of the tri-amp setup.
The other mics that PE has are the UMM-6 and EMM-6 mic that seem to run with REW but can REW do what I need and how well are these two mics compared to the OmniMic?
I don't want to go the route to use a mic that works with my phone or IPad since that seems to be limiting in regard to software solutions via Apps.
Any help is appreciated,

thanks

Axel

A Dayton EMM-6 and REW (on a netbook) work quite well for adjusting overall levels and a DSP connected to my bi-amped system. Note; the EMM-6 needs a preamp/mixer that supplies phantom power. The UMM-6 version plugs directly into a USB port. The EMM-6 is cheaper than the USB version. However, when you add the cost of a mixer and cables the prices are very close.

The microphone with Omnimic appears to be identical to the EMM-6. The one that Mini DSP offers also seems to be the same microphone. They all offer a free calibration file that plugs into REW.

Sounds like there is no need to go the pricey route.
Comes down to what is the difference between REW and the software PE sells with the OmniMic?
Question is also in how far a potential mixer might have an influence on the response curve of the mic? I think I just go with the USB version and REW.

Thanks

Axel

FWIW, I've done quite well with a free copy of Visual Analyser and common condenser mics. It's within a few dB and room issues, even with eq, will swamp that out. Do the analysis in 1/3 octave mode or you'll get very frustrated very fast.

I would also go with the UMM-6 USB microphone and REW. Part of the forum at Home Theater Shack is dedicated to using REW. That means plenty of help is available.

I got the omni mic from Parts Express and used it with REW. Wasn't costly and worked pretty well. It's worth doing, especially if you have subwoofers to find the best places for things.

I ordered the UMM-6 mic and will down load REW and see where that is getting me. Thanks for the input and help
