I just got some new mono blocks that are making my Tannoy gold 15" speakers sing to new levels. They are Antique Sound Labs 1006-845 DT amps, but they have had a lot work done on them for the better. Somebody changed the schematic some to change the driver tubes from 6SN7 to 12SX7, and they put a ton of high-end Jensen caps in it. These things sound amazing and are quiet as could be. It has that great SET midrange of my 300b amp, but much more clarity, speed, and punch. Pics below....
I am running it now with a passive preamp, which seems to do fine, but maybe I will eventually try some different tube preamps I have. With the 15" Tannoys, this is definitely a destination set up. If I get restless, I can always try other 845 tubes and maybe even entertain upgrading the OPTs (I assume they are stock), but these mono blocks will stay with me a long time!
