LOW and WIDE Audio Racks, If you prefer them...

Over the the tall and narrow racks, could you please be kind enough to post fotos of your low and wide rack? I certainly do prefer them over the tall narrow rack, but the big problem is always finding the ones that are at least 48cm/19' deep......Many seem to always be not deep enough, specially if you are trying to use some kind of furniture not intended originally to be used as an audio rack.
I am also aware that the tall and narrow rack is more traditional, but that is another thread.....I just want to see what people have and hear from those who DO prefer them.
With all due respect; This thread intention is not to discuss which one is better.....

I am aware of that but some of us do not have the luxury of having multiple systems so a low wide rack is more practical to combine tv and audio; I like the tv to hang low (head leveled), I think is more relaxing to watch.

I got this at Ikea about 5 years ago. One can stuff a lot of components inside.

Thanks for posting......I was looking at that one the other day in the IKEA catalog and I was also wondering how would it look if the doors were to be removed....For ventilation purposes.

It is very nice but I have to see it in person...
 
^ I had one of the ikea ones and practically crushed it with gear. Put a support under the cabinet directly in the center to keep it from sagging.

I have a low and wide rack in my living room that I built. Fairly simple and about as strong as you could ever need.

Check out the VTI brand model BL503 at racksandstands.com. I am using the "tall and narrow" version of this product but it might be what you are looking for.

My use of a low and wide rack was a function of WAF. We had a chance to pick up a deeper than usual sofa table that matched our other furniture. She was resistant, at first, to the idea of having a full stereo system in the living room, but having it placed on the sofa table made it more palatable. Of course, once the camel got his nose under the tent, it became a whole nother story. Stereo systems are in several rooms in the house, and the basement is a mancave/workshop/stereo infirmary.

Racks, tables, stands, they all drive me crazy. It's been 3 years now and I still don't have one. It's Mission Impossible.
 
This is a Bell'O AVS-2762. Note this picture is about 4 years old, but I still use the stand. The nice thing about using a stand like this is the fact that I know it will handle the weight of the 65 lb receiver. I had a $200 vertical tower rack in a previous place with basically the same components that was a little overmatched weight-wise. The only components that are still there today are the receiver, CD player and DVD player and Panamax. The HTPC is now no longer in a tower to the side but a nice black desktop on a shelf and my not-shown-here power amp (also 65 lbs) is up with the receiver.

Sadly when I return from deployment I will be moving to place where I can't fit a projector/screen. :tears: But I will still use that stand because it fits under a low wall in the new house. And on it will be a new-to-me TT and the power amp will move to below the TV between the new L/R speakers I'll be getting. :D In the end, though, geography of the space dictates what kind of rack I use.

I definitely agree about having the TV low. I have a tall (60") four-shelf rack, but I put the TV on the second shelf from the bottom, only 18" off the floor. One shelf below for storage, and the other two have the audio gear at eye-level (when standing) above the TV.
 
I'll probably get crucified for this... but hey it's a rainy Sat. morning and my stuff is in total disarray.

I like the adjustable wire shelving you can buy at Target. It comes in a variety of depths and widths, and you can store quite a bit of weight on it. My CD changer is not in there right now, that's the cover off on the left (replacing a rubber band that rotates the platter) so I put in the H/K to fill in the blank space.

Left bay is just stuff stacked up, unused: old cable box, Sony DVD changer, Technics SH-8046 EQ, InFocus Video projector.

Center bay: Soundcraftsmen 20-12A EQ (in use, and no it doesn't always smile, depends on the CD), H/K Citation 12, Yamaha B-2 (in use)

Right bay: Kenwood RA-90 II reverb amp, Realistic 12-band EQ, Yamaha M-4 (in use) - relax, the two on top are so shallow they still give plenty of breathing room, and quite possibly America's largest collection of Stereolab CDs (I'm dead serious, there's more on the Bozak on the right)

No comment on the curtains. I know they're too short.

I have had this rack for a little over two years and really like it. It is 19" deep and 45" long. The brand is VTI and for the money it's a good deal. I ordered the extra shelf so the final cost was a little over 350.00. The stand comes with the spikes and pads. The only downside is takes a long time to unwrap the thing when it arrives. :) It has a steel tube frame and is pretty stout while being light weight. One amp is 68lbs and the other is 80lbs and the shelf doesn't seem to notice the weight. The room it's in is the shop. Which has been made into a listening room for very little expense and it shows but I enjoy it. :)
