Low-end components from the early 1970s ?

I seem to recall Midland as a low-end brand back in the day.

I always found most Sanyo stuff a little underwhelming, although I think they came out mid to late 70s. They did produce a few good pieces but for the most part they didn't have solid lineups from BOTL to TOTL like Sansui, Marantz, Pioneer, Yamaha, Kenwood, Sherwood, HK.....

It wasn't all as it seemed...I had a Montgomery Ward tape deck I found that had the identical innards to a buddy of mine's Harman Kardon deck...

Probably both Nakamichi OEM. Many of the early cassette decks were.
Airline was Wards' house brand for electronics contemporary to Sears' Silvertone.

There was quite decent Sanyo stuff -- by and large, they didn't bother with the US market with it, though.
Sold under the OTTO brand in Japan.
