lower pwr Marantz rcvr with better sound than 2250b?

I like my Marantz 2250b but it is heavier and more power than I need. This is for our bedroom system which we usually use at lower levels ... mellow music. I'm thinking 20wch will be fine.
I love the vintage Marantz look.

Are there lower power vintage Marantz rcvrs with better sound? (2226, 2230. etc)
I'll probably stick with the 2250b rather than give up sound quality.
Still, if I can get same, or better, sound I'd rather trade down in size.

The 2226B is a real nice receiver. Classic silver face, plenty of power for a small room and the specifications are better than a 2230B, IMO. You should be able to pick up a nice clean example for under 1.5 bills. I'm listening to mine as I write this and I wouldn't trade it for anything

Hmm ... I've heard great things about the 2230 as well but ... not sure how my 2250b compares.

The Marantz 2230 is a great sounding receiver, best of the 22** series IMHO (I have owned 2230, 2245, 2270, not the best tuner, but the best sounding)

I've got a 2226 that I use for the tuner section and phono section that I love. I don't have a lot of experience using it as an actual receiver, though. I tried hooking it up to the PSB Stratus Silvers in my computer/living room system and it sounded good at lower levels, but not at louder levels. I think the PSBs are a little power hungry, so that's not a slam at the 2226b. I'd like to hook it up with some smaller speakers one day and see how it does. I'm guessing that it would be great for a bedroom system.

+1 for the 2230. It is IMHO one of the best sounding of all the post Saul Marantz receivers.

I say a Model 18 for best sonics of all sub 50 WPC Marantz receivers and the most Saul Marantz like in build and appearance. Among the best receivers ever made by any company and made in Woodside, New York or Sun Valley, CA.
