LP records score

I buy LPs on a local antique shop, flea markets and antique fair which is held once a month. In my town there is no trift stores and garage sales, we do not have that kind of stuff.
So yesterday I went to the antique fair and in several places I encountered on some records. Mostly in very poor condition or too expensive. I was about to go home with only 2 LPs and ran into a guy who just came and spread his records on the floor. I pick about 15 LPs and overheard him talking with his niece that they didn't carry all they have.
I asked him does he have more records at home, and he confirmed.
We exchanged phone numbers and I arranged that I will come back tomorrow to his place to see these records. There i find about 55 more records and few singles. All are ex or near mint just little dusty. Total cost about $110. Lots of Purple, Doors, Uriah Heep and Mike Oldfield records, some Zeppelin, Sabbath and blues stuff and Smak albums (best ex Yugoslavia rock band, they are called Serbian Led Zeppelin). Now I know that you guys already have all those popular album on LPs but I just started collecting records few months ago and until yesterday I had about 150 records.
Only those Smak albums goes for 20-40$ on net. And the best thing is that I was just about to buy one of their album for $ 20 in worse condition than this one is, if the guy responded one day earlier I'd bought it. So I'm pretty happy now

Good haul! Congrats on your LP score! It must be interesting and a real challenge to collect records with no thrifts or garage sales to hit. Do you have any used record stores? I know they are usually more expensive, but they can be good sources too.

Thanks guys.
There is one antique shop. They have some records but mainly they have books. I bought some nice records from them but as you say they are more expensive. However there is few used record stores in main city, i ordered few by mail but you can't trust to their grading system. I found some stuff online (page similar to your craigslist) and ebay but mostly on flea markets and antique fair.

Mostly local pressings, few UK, German and other European countries. Most of those local pressings are very good. We had very good music and records industry back then.

Congrats! Boy, that's the way to do it. A big block of great rock in one shot. Good luck with your hunting. You could also try putting a "records wanted" ad on your local site that's similar to craigslist.

Great job! One thing that other AK members might want to notice is that here in the USA, we have an embarrassment of riches when it comes to vintage stereo and vinyl records. We were such a major market for so long, and lots of the original high-end tube-based stuff came from here in the first place (obviously some exceptions). Even the prices we complain about are pretty darned low compared to what others have to pay to enjoy the same stuff. Good on the OP for the great deal in his area!

Very nice :) Congratulations on a great pick up. Part of the fun of collecting LP's is the hunt

You're right, hunting is fun. The whole vinyl part is fun, hunting, cleaning, putting the records on turntable and dropping needle on them.
I needed new hobby, because my old hobby become source of income and is not that fun anymore. I like my new hobby :)

When I bought these albums I picked few ex Yu albums that I thought they might worth some money for resale and it turns out I was right.
In that stash was some rare ex Yu records from band I don't even listen so I sold 3 albums for 150$ and still have few from others bands that I might sell latter for same amount.
So that pile payout itself. It was such a good feeling that I bought some even rarer albums from my favorite band :D

Great to hear this story. Good work. How hard was it to find a turntable to spin them on? And maybe you can find some nice tube gear from the classic era in your country too?

It is easy to buy turntable, there is bunch of them on online ads. Tube gear and anything from US are rare, but Japanese and German stuff are common here. Dual turntables are dirty cheep here compared to US, UK and German ebay if you find one you like. I bought 1219 for 80$ and 701 with shure m75 for 75$

Thanks for not telling me about this :P

Joking, enjoy your great scores :thmbsp:

Although, to buy a great TT for a bargain price you really have to be lucky, find a honest seller, go to his house and open 'four eyes and six ears' :D I had two bad experiences buying el cheapo via online ads.
As a side note, got my first turntable via eBay from Germany two days ago - Sansui 222 MKII, the price was €175+14 ship. in excellent condition. It is impossible to find such device in Cro. and for that money

I agree that you need luck to find something that you want. And then a little more luck that it works properly, and to run into honest seller. It is all about luck in this country anyway.
Nice turntable you got and great shipping price on that purchase from Germany.
