So, after having a bunch of people come look at my truck for sale. I finally ran into a guy who has a truck with the same engine, accept his engine is way shittier then mine. He told me to use a quart of lucas oil treatment, and then switch to 20w-50 castrol (My brand) he said this will quiet it down some and stop the slow leak, and bring the oil pressure back up.

It drops a little after the engine is hot.

Does this make any since to you guys.

I figure if it blows up, it's worth what it's worth for parts alone. :scratch2:

Back in the day when us kids had no money, and lots of worn out engines in our cars; we used Marvel's Mystery Oil (looks like a glob of hundred year old pine tar floating in a bottle of 30 weight), to seal up our leaky engines. It worked... sometimes.

I shudder to think what that gummy stuff actually did to the inside of the engines we used it on.

FYI; I'd be terrified to use anything with "Lucas" in it's name. :)

Ok, do you have a brand that would work. I'm looking for oil treatment and thicker oil.

Try the 20w50 castrol. I had a dry start in my truck and switching to castrol got rid of the problem. If that doesn't help maybe add some stp oil treatment. I don't like lucas oil treatment but my brother uses it all the time to doctor up cars for the "dog and pony show".

I use synthetics in my vehicle. They tend to keep things very clean, which may be bad in your situation, because synthetics tend to clean EVERYTHING, including any varnish that may be actually helping your seals and gaskets seal.

I wouldn't try the Lucas, Marvell, or Wynns cleaners simply because they probably clean too much. Stick with a good quality 15W30 or 15W40 oil. 20W50 is getting a bit on the thick side. Remember the shafts that run the oil pump off of the camshaft is not very big (GM uses a 7/16 shaft with a slot and groove setup, Ford uses a hex shaft that usually isn't any bigger than 3/8") and those shafts have a limit. Too thick of an oil and they tend to shear off. That ruins your day very quick!

As for the oil pressure dropping after the engine warms up, that is completely normal. As the oil warms up, it gets thinner, goes thru the passages easier, and that results in a lower pressure reading. As with all hydraulic pumps (the one in the engine is just a variant of a gear or a Gerotor Pump) pressure is dictated by a resistance to flow. The greater resistance, the higher the pressure, the lower the resistance, the lower the pressure, but the flow increases.

What are the 3 positions of the headlight switch on a Lucas equipped car?

Dim, Flicker, Off...

Why to the British drink warm beer?

Lucas refrigerators

What were Mr. Lucas's last words?

Don't drive after dark.....

Well I tried it. The oil pressure is allot better, the leak. It's still there. But not as bad.

Thick oil might help when it's hot, but it's much worse for wear on start up. That honey takes a while to flow to the moving parts and that's when most wear occurs.

Best oil to use period is diesel C rated HDEO like Delo 400 or Delvac MX/Super, gives you the same protection of expensive synthetics for less than half the cost, that way you can afford to change them more frequently as well without putting a hole in your pocket. Keeps your internals clean as well.

I only use castrol 10/40 in all we ever drove. Our 97 Ram 1500 4x4 360 Mag made not a sound the day we traded it in at 266,000. I never added a thing to the oil as the only thing that'll fix wear is a repair. I also still have my 94 S-10 4 cly 5 speed. I do my own mechanic work but when the truck was still nearly brand new I noticed the oil pressure would drop from 60 down to 12-15 at a hot idel so took it to the dealer thinking they'd fix it for free.Huh,they said not to worry as that engine only needed 4 psi per 1,000 rpm to keep the bearing off the crank and since mine would raise to 35-40 at a higher rev they was not going to tear into it.LOL, I ran the living hell out of it over reved it each day before shifting gears hoping it'd go out while they would replace the engine. I soon gave up thinking it'd blow and it still runs without a sound today at 159,000. I replaced the sending unit but it still drops after warming up, I don't worry about it though,I just drive this thing cross country.I've seen other S-10's that I've replaced engines in for folks hold better oil pressure than mine ever did but mine's never complained.Strange aint it :scratch2:

Well like someone said. The pressure may be lower, but the volume is higher.

The oil pump is just a volume pump. Not pressure.

We'll see. Right now I don't care if the damn thing blows up. What's the worst that could happen.

Spill oil all over the road and piss of green peace. :lmao:
