Luxman d 105u issues

I got this cd player the other day but it has some problems that I would like to address if possible. The main thing is that whenever I put in a cd or take one out the lens keeps trying to move forward for a bit producing a clicking noise before going back to its normal operation. Also the lcd is fairly dim (mostly on the left side) and it has some reading issues sometimes. Any tips ?

It's not only Luxman with these issues. The model that was used for CD mechanism sink's. Other manufacturer that used them have Reading issues, Tray noises, Stuck tray . I have replaced mine 2x and only works for a while. The
D105U is in the basement.

Sink's what does that mean ? Also any clue on fixing atleast the lens problem or nah ?
 
Hi ,Iam a new member to this forum, I have a Luxman d 105 u cd player . The display is not working . some segments blinks when switch off .The front panel switches also not working .have anyone come across the same situation ? need your advice . Thanks
 
It's a vintage Luxman, so is it really that good to keep fiddling with it? I'd move on to a more dependable unit w/ better sound.
 
There are a couple of repair videos on YouTube on this unit. I will say they seem to suffer from some poor design choices, and also get a fair amount of heat damage from the two tubes employed. Also worth noting the 105u was produced to update the design deficiencies of the D-105 (no "u" suffix), and still didn't age very well.

Sad to say that Luxman wasn't at their best in this era, while under the corporate ownership and control of Alpine. I recently revived a DX-103 CD Player, slow of the Alpine era, and while it is a generally well built device (being mostly a rebadge of a Toshiba XR-Z70), it was a self evidently a victim of some cost cutting. Having watched the repair video about the D-105u just out of curiosity, I wasn't overly impressed with it either. Which is a shame, the 105 was a neat idea, just with less than ideal execution.

As for the display, it is a VFD, so make sure the filament and grid voltages are all present. Loss of any one of the three required will black out the display entirely. Quite likely to be a power supply issue owing to aged caps.
