I picked up a, sadly, pretty beat up Luxman GX-101 to go with my mint RX-103 and KX-102. Been trying to fix it up a bit. The bulb that illuminates the acrylic buttons in the center has burned out.
The illumination is a bluish, greenish, whitish color (sort of pale aqua/cyan) on my RX-103 and KX-102. It's a VERY close match to the VFD color.
I've been thinking to replace it with an LED since finding an exact same bulb for it might be difficult and more expensive. The bulb illuminates through a blue filter that looks like a tiny rubber condom. I tried a few bulbs from my junk bin, but they all look a bit too blue. Makes me wonder if the GX-101's illumination color even matched the suckface units in the first place. Tried a cool white LED behind the condom and it looks completely blue. Tried a warm white LED and although it's a little more aqua, it's still mostly blue.
Wife says, "it doesn't really have to match, does it?" Maybe not, but I kind of feel like I really want it to!
Has anyone found an LED that is a close match?
I suppose I could use a 5mm RGB LED and 3-resistors hooked up to an RGB controller and fine-tune both the color and brightness. Seems massively overkill, though It would actually be reasonable in cost.
