Luxman L-580 Relay problem

Hello, I have a vintage Luxman L-580 that has what appears to be the totally wrong relay in. It is mounted in a weird spot with speaker wires used as leads that go to the circuit board. I contacted Luxman and they want 60 dollars for the relay plus 5 dollars shipping!! I know I can find a cross reference somewhere and I was wondering if anyone had any information as to what was originally in it as far as the relay goes. I want to replace it as the relay is fried. It is black. I couldn't seem to find a schematic, the only one i could find was the L-58A and that didn't even have the relay listed in the parts list. Any help would be appreciated! I want to get this monster working again :)

It looks just like the L-58A I have the box and everything, I should probably have specified further to the company as they were probably thinking it was the newer version but still, 65 dollars for a relay is a bit ridiculous. Either way they wont give out information as to what it is so I can replace it myself and last time i emailed them they sent me to a number that didn't even exist so... I am not sure what was going on with them.

If they actually have the part you need, that's not an unusual price. Get used to it, parts cost a lot. However, I'd be certain what it is you're getting before plunking down the bucks. And if they're that confusing, I probably would not chance it, myself. Unfortunately, you have a 30+ year old classic that is very rare. Parts are hard to come by. Someone here who has experience repairing them might be able to tell you the chances that a different model might suffice as a donor unit, but I do not have that kind of information, sorry. Good luck, it's a really nice amp.
 
Luxman has no idea of the relay in your L-580, the company has gone through a number of owners since your unit was built and what they are offering is the relay for the newer model.

Well at least that is what I think.

I'm going to open my l-580 in a few days and can get the info off the relay to see if there is something out there that will work.
 
Thank you very much the both of you for the information. I'm thinking that the relay was for the newer unit they offered but then again I don't entirely know. Seeing as how it has switched hands and after all it is an overseas company it was very hard to read exactly what was written.

I would love some info on the relay, I've searched up and down for any type of info on it and didn't have any luck. Just respond to this if you ever do open it back up and either let me know a part number or what it says. I should be able to find a suitable one that should fit in the case. Or, like you said, if you happened to know of a suitable one too. :) Thanks!

The original p/n appears to be a 3A rated relay, higher won't hurt. I can't seem to find a data sheet for the series. Ask the seller if it's a dpdt 3A relay.
 
SM say GZ-48HM relay.

Blue Shadow so the GZ-48HM would be the relay that I would need then? Sorry I just want to try to get the right one and I'm not sure if that was the part number that yours had in. Thanks again
 
Well the pic is the one in my unit. the SM also specifies that number so yes what you want is a GZ-48HM compatible relay.
 
Thank you very much I appreciate it a lot! The guy who previously worked on it had a 24vdc one with a resistor hooked up to it for some strange reason... Hopefully it didn't wreck anything. But once again thank you so much Blue!

I hate to dig up an old thread but I am getting around to fixing my luxman. I found a relay that MAY work but the place that has the relay, when talking to technical support, said he didn't know what the letter suffixes meant. Here is to hoping if someone might know if this relay would work in my system.

this is basing it off of Blue Shadow's picture of his original relay that is in his unit

His = GZ 48HM
Replacement GZ 48H

I know that fujitsu bought out takamisawa. im just worried what the letter suffixes at the end mean is all. And if I did buy this relay, would it in fact work. The tech guy had 0 information about the relay.

Hate to just buy it... toss it in and pray for the best. :( Tried doing some research about the suffixes but no go.
 
Going to resurrect this thread.... Still trying to find the relay. I know I see one on ebay from germany but to me it seems like that relay is too tall and wont fit without modifications. Just curious if someone knows an alternative :(
 
Guessing my offer to receive your unit to make one good working unit from our two units wasn't enough enticement and you opted to restart the search.

From the model number the relay operates on 48volts that can be verified by qualified folks.
Next is the H, from the Fujitsu spec sheet today (maybe they took over or are Takamisawa) would mean 5A contacts and that is typical for large amps.
The M from the Fujitsu sheet means 1 Form C which is SPST. The one you found years ago, no letter, would indicate by today's sheet would be a SPDT-NO 1 Form A. One of these could be used, but the second set of contacts would need to be addressed.

I just installed a 1 Form A relay in a board that has the holes for the second set of contacts but no solder traces or connections are made. In other instances these need to be clipped off the new relay to install.
 
HI All- Working on a luxman L-580 . Traced the DOA to the 48 volt relay. Popped the top of the relay after noticing a melted spot on the relay cover. One contact set melted in the closed position, but jammed the other side. The coil was still good. Resistance is 2.6K ohms. DPDT. Closest match so far has been OMRON MY2-02-DC48. same coil. rated 5A. pinout prob wont fit the board so it may need to use a wire harness and remote mount.
