I have the L 480 and it is a favourite, if I could swing it this would be worth purchasing, hopefully someone that appreciates it will. I think the price is reasonable all things considered.

Had one and went to the trouble to have it restored and some simple mods (added modern binding posts, IEC outlet). They're fun units with all the controls but are heavy and can run hot.

Cases are chipboard covered w vinyl wood print applique so a new custom case might be in order for this one.

No telling what "shop repaired" might involve. I'd hope it would be like the work shown in the link below:

I picked one up 6yrs ago....The bottom boards are installed upside down and that's NG on Class A unit...Toasty boards
which is a Main issue with the L-580. Mine has a channel out and need lot's of Trace wiring....A project I will get too one day/year.

But the one channel sounds very nice!!!!
 
L-580 isn't a class a amplifier but those boards do get toasty and a couple of the TO-220 transistors get so hot the board above them gets crispy. Maybe they are part of the preamp section which probably is class a.

Of course, mine was a main unit for a couple decades driving DCM Time Windows and letting the last power LED bump as needed. I drove it hard and sounded great but it sure needs some work now.

Anyone buying an L-580 at retail prices and this one at over 650 is full retail, should have the box removed and flip the unit over and look at the circuit board for charred sections opposite the row of output transistors.
 
That is a lot more amp that the 500 buck Pioneers/Sansuis/Marantz amps out there. The L-580 does sound very good, Nice LED power indicators and lots of tone flexibility with filters, boost and turnover frequencies. Lots of folks here could do with a good subsonic filter to stop that woofer from moving in and out for no sonic benefit.
 
I have an L-11 integrated and believe that the L-580 would be a downgrade. The L-11 is built like a **** brick house. :idea:
