Luxman L vs A series

Dear friend I have come to the conclusion, in the end I have a desire for one of these:
Luxman l550 or Denon PMA 970

Maybe I would prefer the Denon, you guys on the forum? You Blue Shadow?

That should be a good one. Let us know what you think.

. I love Sansui 221.
I had a 331, free pick up on night before trash day in my neighborhood as I drove home. Got it cleaned up and once the inside of the glass was cleaned it looked great. I used it for TV sound for some time and then swapped in a Marantz 2238B and was amazed at the difference. The 331 was very dark by comparison, more difference than I have heard in any simple electronics swap. Thinking back about that sound I believe it would be a very good match to the sound of Klipsch of the era. I never suspected there was anything wrong with the 331 just shocked at the difference I heard.

Nice looking piles of gear. Add a Luxman M-12 and C-12 or better yet CL-32 (tube) to the mix for their flavor of sound.

Many thanks. Yes the Sansui 221 is a love of amp, I have the Sansui 441 under technical review, just bought 3 days ago. In the cabinet I have a nice Sansui Eight. What do you mean by dark sound, I'm Italian, did it sound less good than the Marantz?

The overall frequency response would be tilted down so heavy in the bottom end and light on the treble.

Allora avevo capito bene.

Then I understood correctly. In reality this is not the case, perhaps your 331 should have been checked better, or if you did it yourself, perhaps it wasn't right for your TV. I try various amps on my KHorn and the Sansui are always clean, crystal clear, warm midrange and deep bass. Was your 331 ok in everything checked?

The 331 was just a casual visitor. I put effort into the Luxman R-1050 and R-3055 for receivers. But after hearing the difference between the 331 and 2238B, I thought one of them wasn't quite right. I didn't know the sound of the speakers either since they never made it to the main rig and were under the TV for a while before they were scooped up by a friend.

I think it had to be like this, one of the 2 was incorrect. I can guarantee you that the KHorn are very revealing of the defects of an amp, Denon, Sansui, NAD3020 none of these sound dark, gloomy, the most crystalline are the Sansui Eight and the Denon PMA 970 but compared to them the 221 seems the same, with some difference (less bass power, but only at very high volume ) but it's not dull or dark.

It, the 331 probably needed new caps, just tired and old. But it found a happy home to live on.
