Hi guys
Just took delivery of a L400 & although I was told lamps had been replaced I'm suspicious a few are out. the 3 phono/aux/tuner work but Thought there maybe should of been one or two on the power switch with some kind of warm up process through different colours & I also thought there was one on the volume knob. I have an L410/430 owners manual but haven't tracked down an L400 one yet. Anyone have experience with this model & can shed some light(pun intended) Thanks in advance.

I'm not familiar with that model but from experience, most Luxman's use 24v lamps, Dave. :D
 
Thanks for the quick reply Dave. I've found a guy with the lamps for sale on ebay to suit the L400, I just need to find out how many there should be.
 
Ok, I've found a night time pic here in another post & there would appear to be no volume indicator light or power switch/warm up light visible. According to the L410 owners manual these are present, so maybe it's a feature of the higher output models only.
It's no big deal, I love the amp, I'm just a fussy bastard & like things to be right.
 
Thanks Ruxman, do you know if there meant to be in the power switch & volume knob of the L400, as they appear to be in the L410/430.
 
Inside my Lux M-4000 there are some strange bulbs as I recall. Never did find any.
10 volt and long. Its been awhile though.
 
Ok, so Ruxman are you saying apart from what type of bulb it is, your saying that from your experience/knowledge there should be a bulb in volume assemby in the L400. What about the warm up power switch setup?

I guess the best way to find out is to crack it open & find out for myself. I'm planning to de oxit a Denon PMA 500 to do a side by side comparison before I sell it so I'll probably do it then. Thanks for all the info guys.
 
I looked over the schematic of the 400 and it seems to differ somewhat from the other amps in the series. I am not sure if it has a lamp above the volume control.

It does have lamp 2-3-4 which is for the three differently colored lights n the front, they are 24V but it doesn't say anything more than that. And I cannot find lamp 1 in the schematic (if it even exists).

The warm-up indicator is just an LED. No need to replace that.

Looks quite nice. A little old, though. I think the Luxman will probably sound better, even though both brands used to make very similarly sounding gear (best on the market, with Denon generally a bit better).
 
Thanks Ruxman, I scanned through the service manual myself & although far from being a tech who can read these things properly I came to the same conclusion. I'll still open it up & check for sure though as I want to remove the gold plastic bits off the side of the facia as well since one is damaged.

It's been an outstanding amp with a great phono section but it desperately needs a service & I wont be surprised if I keep it. I've tried to replace it several times over the years with a couple of nads, a pioneer, & a marantz with no success. I feel the Luxman is going to do it though, so far it appears cleaner & more detailed, particularly the phono stage, pity about the plastic knobs though.

Does your amp lack this window? If so - you have no lamp there. I thought that every model in this series had it.

That Denon looks nice. From their golden era, too. Late 70's to sometime in the 80's. After that, it went downhill - way downhill. Like with most manufacturers.
 
Ruxman your a legend! thats exactly what I needed to see & I now feel pretty stupid for not working this out for myself.
Because I originally thought it should have a light there, I naively expected it to glow through the slight gap around the edge of the knob. It never occurred to me that there should be a small window for it, what a goose I am. Thanks for your patience & persistence settling this one for me.
