Luxman M-117 On the Way

The Luxman R-117 has become my daily driver. It drives two pairs of speakers without a whimper and it just has this feeling the power will go on forever. I'm so happy with the R-117 I decided to get a M-117 to go with it. I will be able to control it through the R-117's second Pre-out and that means remote control control. The M-117 is rated at 200 wpc and can delivery 800 wpc into 2 ohm. Can't wait to pop a house breaker!

I want to drive two pairs of speakers. IMO, it is a good idea to have one amp channel driving one speaker. I will do more than imagine, I'M GOING TO FLOOR IT!!

Don't know why the M-117 doesn't get more mentions. After getting my $82 R-117 w/remote, I'm a Luxman convert.

Me too. Your 7600 here yet? I think the R-117/M-117 has the measure of the 7600/2600A although I don't think Lux's can be bridged.

Sam -- No, the 7600 is not hear yet. And, I'm preparing myself to be somewhat disappointed since you have pretty much confirmed that the R-117 is the better of the two. However, at least now I have a 7600, so I don't have to wonder. You'v forced my hand. Now I've got to get one too!

I can't wait to hear about your M-117. I've wanted one for a long time just to see what it was like, but just don't care to get into seperates. There is a matching Tuner/Preamp, the TP-117, which mates with the M-117 although the R-117 will do the same thing.

Somehow Luxman's engineers, with the Star Circuit and Duo Beta NFB, hit on the "magic combination" in the R-117 so that you WANT to listen to it all day long. The reproduction is, to my ears, so revealing. Subtleties and nuances that other units simply ignore and reproduced faithfully. However, there is a "warmth" to the sound that stands in stark contrast to the "clinical purity" of a typical TOTL Yamaha. Then, on top of that, there's the dynamic headroom. The power is "effortless". I look at that black box and just shake my head. The M-117 is more of the same. How good is that????

AWESOME INFO. I think the best measure of a high power amp is the ability to engage at low listening. The R-117 can do just that, it's sweet and detailed. This afternoon, I went for it and the Lux was up to the task. A monster that can be cuddly. I fully anticipate the M-117 to be more of the same but with that last little bit of engineering that is often missing from all-in-one receivers. My ultimate wishlist includes a TP-117 running two M-117's. That would be GLORIOUS.

But, let's not overuse the word GLORIOUS. People might get the wrong idea.......

Ok, it's just glorious, not GLORIOUS.

The headroom the M-117, R-117 and 7600 get me thinking about pro amps. My Crown CT810 has FTC 295w/8 ohm and 460w/4 ohm ratings. The 7600 can peak at 400w/4 ohm and 800w/2 ohm. The R-117 and M-117 can do similar numbers. Granted, the Crown ratings are continous and the others are peak. These numbers are comparable. That's a nice achievement considering the Lux and NAD are for home use.
