Hello everyone, I am a new member on the forum.

In another thread, I got into a discussion about the Luxman PD-210 turntable. I recently acquired one for just over a hundred bucks. Haven't received it yet, but since there is no definite info on the web, I wanted to know all of the other Luxman Nuts and vinyl lovers opinion of the TT.

It's belt driven, with an FG, and mine comes with a AT90e. Also was made from '84 to '87.

P.S. I will be using an Audio Technica PM7000 cart with an EVG Japan 4212-DET with it.

I will be posting more soon about the table when I receive it.

Ok, so no one has replied, so I will give all of the research I was able to find and personal experience from this table.

This table was manufactured by CEC for Luxman based on Luxman's specific requirements, has an AC motor, and auto return. It does NOT have an FG servo as I previously mentioned. It has two speeds, but the speeds are changed through an arm that moves the belt to different size spindles in order to change mechanical transport length.

My initial impressions of this table were pretty low, after peeking inside at the works. A picture of the works:

Obviously, not terrific. I soon realized however, that simplicity doesn't mean a lack of quality or concern. After changing the belt, and tweaking a few things, and adding my cartridge, the table came out sounding amazing. Virtually no rumble, and the isolation was insane. At times, the dust cover would slam on the table, but the record would never come close to skipping. In addition, the motor is inaudible, and completely stable. It was so good, I thought I was mistaken at first:confused:

I purchased this turntable from Canada on eBay. Besides the speed issue which a new belt cleared up, the turntable had another issue. the DUST COVER!!!

This dust cover looks absolutely terrible. Those spots in the dust cover are even worse in person. I don't even want to know how this happened. It seemed at first like this cover would not clean up at all. I tried several polishing products, some of which were pretty strong, but no results; The spots and scratches remained rebellious, and strong.

But then, I got a wild and some what unconventional idea:

Happened to have one of these 3M advanced headlight restoration kits in the garage. The original purpose of this was for an automobile's fogged up headlights. I connected that this might work on the TT as the plastics are very similar in color, composition, and appearance.

After several rounds, here is the result:

The results are stunning. The spots and scratches are totally gone.

After spraying on Blue Magic headlight sealer :naughty:, The table was all set.

I have mentioned this before, but I paid $40 to a thrift for a PD 289 direct drive, with a Denon 301 in good shape in it. When I looked at how it was made, I too was not impressed either. It is more than exceptional to my ear, but feedback is a problem at high levels in my home. The specs aren't the best, but it just sounds better than many others I have owned.
 
This PD210 Luxman is a pretty basic table, as you found out. It doesn't mean it is a bad or terrible deck. I had one but, could not fix the auto return mechanism, I think a gear was broken. I had to toss it, which was a shame as it was in excellent condition.

I actually think I might have the headshell for it, somewhere unless I threw it away by accident.

I also had problems with the auto return mechanism. It's a rather strange design. I was able to fix it, but it didn't have anything broken, it was just misaligned.

Toss it?!? Because the auto-return didn’t work??!!! Really hoping you mean it would auto-return during play and not just that it didn’t work!

Nope, had to toss it, no one in my city would buy a non-functional table and I did not need it and neither did any else I knew.
 
Well, in all fairness, a turntable isn't a couch or a table, not just ANYONE would pick it up.

Well I don’t want to keep dragging this out but all it takes at most is a free ad on cl and virtually anything will disappear. My friend used to work at the dump and seeing the things people threw away was appaling. Working stereo equipment, tvs, and the one that irritated me the most - bicycles. Now how hard would it be to make some poor kid happy as a clam with a free bicycle?

Would you have stepped up to cover the shipping for that unit? If folks don't and the unit needs to go, well what then?
 
But for the record yes, if anyone has a Luxman turntable with a broken auto-return I’d be more than happy to pay the shipping to have it sent to me:banana:
 
CL is not very popular here, and it's far easier to recycle it, then no one has to come around my house accept for the recycling collector.

I don't think you would not pay shipping for the luxman from Canada to USA.

I managed to order a belt. For those interested: the belt measures 31 cm folded (62 cm circumference), 1 mm thickness and 5 mm width.
