Luxman PD-277 Motor Will Not Start.

Hello AKrs,

Needing a little help here. I picked up a Luxman PD-277 and it doesn't seem to want to start. I have checked all the fuses and replaced all the electrolytics and Deoxed the switches. Still same as before. When flipping the speed switch back and forth I can see the motor bump a little but it just will not go. Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Jason

Should have stuck with Hitachi...

You dont tell if you tested whith the platter on or of, dd drives usually needs the platter on to function.
try whith the platter on.

Platter on or off same results just a slight bump in movement.

I have tried spinning by hand to see if it would pick up speed but it didn't work either.

hmm
it seems others have had similar problems.

they may have a fix for you look here:
https://www.vinylengine.com/turntable_forum/viewtopic.php?t=51538

my gues would be the 2sc945 transistors on the motorcontrol board - change for KSC945 and mind the legs are placed "the other way round" so you should turn the new transistors 180 degrees relative to the old ones

you can buy them direct from fairchild at:

best of luck

I found that last night as well. I had some multi-comp equivalents to 2sc945 and replaced the three that were in my table. All the other transistors I ordered and should be here at the end of the week. In the service manual it would list about three options for the transistors and I picked up the ones that were a direct replacement for what was in there.

Thanks

Do you mean that you are pressing start and the arm moves to the LP and descends but no platter movement ?

Ok, you've probably already covered anything I might add. By the time the tonearm moves over to the LP it hits the switch for motor start.

Last year I reacquired the PD-277 I originally bought new. It was binding on that switch, and needed to be manually positioned. Needed a lube to work normally.

OK...now I am going through this thing bit by bit trying to figure out WTF is wrong. So I replace all the transistors with updated equivalents(NTE and Multicomp) and now the fuses keep blowing. Anyone have any ideas? I have checked the capacitors and the transistors to ensure I didn't put in anything backwards. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks
Jason

Unless there is a known issue, shotgunning it doesn't work. Try to find someone that is familiar with that TT. It is worth the money to repair it, if you can find an honest repairman. I have the PD 289 and it is a pretty good TT. The biggest problem is that you have to isolate it well or you will get feedback.

So. I did find that my "equivalents" were not equivalent. They drew too much amperage. This thing has been put on hold until I can get my workshop up again after moving.

I know this is an old old thread, but I'm glad it was here. This was my fix! All the transistors checked good so I don't know which one was bad. Thanks.
