Luxman PD-277 vs PD-289

Can anyone sum up the differences between the 277 and 289? Is the PD- 289 necessarily a more desirable turntable? I am not looking for which one is more valuable or I would have posted in d&s. Just the features that distinguish the two models.

Seems the 289 is the replacement for the 277, both full automatics. I would expect them to be very similar with the 277 being a bit better as the later product was less expensive new and had the arm that many like the Luxman TA-1 made by Micro Seiki. The 289 has a similar arm, maybe built a bit less expensively, I don't really know.

I don't think you can go wrong with either table in good working order.

IIRC, the PD-289 has a adjustable headshell on a shorter tonearm. The 277 has a longer arm with a fixed headshell. The drive systems are most likely otherwise essentially the same. IMHO though, the PD-277 Micro Seiki tonearm is the best feature. You can find more info on both at vinylengine.com.
Note that if you compare the specs they will be different, due to the IEC-B weighting for the 277 and the DIN-B weighting for the 289. Their S/N performance should be nearly identical if both are in good condition.
I think you could be happy with either one.
