Luxman PX-99

Hello,

I currently own a Kenwood KD-3070 thats been recovered from my mother in law's basement 2-3 years ago where its been collecting dust for many, many years. Its not bad I think, but I think its not in the best condition. The records are spinning with a slight angle (its waving up and down a bit) and it still have its original shure M75 cartridge.

I'm looking to get a new table since I dont feel like its worth investing in the Kenwood. I currently have my eyes on a Luxman PX-99 thats fitted with a Grado black cartridge. Would it be a significant upgrade? Also, the Luxman is lighter than the Kenwood, is that really bad since the table is going to be sitting on a high wooden table on wooden floor?

Thanks!

Kenwood made some excellent TT's. That one was apparently entry level though (do a search here for info). There is a Service Manual at VE (free registration) http://www.vinylengine.com/library/kenwood/kd-3070.shtml so you might be able to fix it.

The Luxman was probably made by Micro Seki and would be an upgrade to your KD3070.
The only drawback to the PX-99 is if you want to put another Cartridge on another Headshell. Those headshells with the side screw are hard to find. I would guess the tonearm was made by Jelco as my "AR The Turntable" uses the same Headshell but they can be found.
If you want to ask about value you should post in the Dollars and … forum

Thanks for the advice. Regarding the cartridge, I would still be able to change it if I dont change the headshell right? If I understood correctly, the drawback is if I ever want to upgrade for a better headshell right? I dont think I would go that far in upgrading though, when the time comes where I'm tired of this TT, I will simply look for a higher end TT :)
