Luxman R-1070, Power switch solution with relay.

Hello,

A few weeks ago i bought a Luxman R-1070, it had a blown channel, lamps not working...the works. So I have been very busy with my little project, and it goes remarkably well as I haven't tried it before. Anyway, the powerswitch is toast and I would like to try to install a relay instead of trying to fix the powerswitch (I have tried that, it didn't work), but I'm not sure how to go about it. I have searched much of the forum but can not seem to find a link. Can someone point me in the right direction with a link or some advice?

By the way. The Luxman sounds absolutely amazing!

I'll probably do this to the R-1120 that I have that has a working switch.

I'm thinking of putting a 120V relay in the R-1120 I have with a tired switch but will replace the switch internals with parts from another switch. That should fix it as the relay will take the load off the switch. Lux used switches that were rated at about the same as the unit. This leads to shorter life as the contacts burn up.
 
Thanks for your answer and link Blue Shadow. So if I understand the drawing correctly, the triac functions as a relay. As the amperage is so low, do you think that I can use the first part of the powerswitch (the part closest to the chassis that takes care of the activation of the protective relay), as the second (240 V) part is burned up.

By the way. I have also tried to change the parts in the powerswitch with new ones ( a link I found in the DIY section) but it didn't work for me, I guess my fingers are to thick!
 
For either the triac or the relay you need a working power switch - neither will fix a switch that is toast. The idea behind both mods is that the load on the working switch will be drastically reduced and will be taken up by the replacement component (triac or relay) which is better suited for the task and is readily available.
