Luxman R-115 compared to R-114

Perception is clearly personal but… I just acquired an R114 and on arrival it looked like it was flood damaged. After 4 hours of deoxit and a tooth brush cleaning the boards and everything I could reach, I connected it to a dim bulb and boom it came out of protection and no shorts. I have it connected to a small set of klipsch sacrificial speakers and using Apple lossless as a source and it’s sonically wonderful. There was a bit of crackles but after working the switches, it’s a wonderful delight. It’s still stripped down to the frame. So to be blunt, I have no idea what the earlier posters are talking about? I have restored multiple Luxman’s and they all have a wonderful clean sound, but I was shocked by this R114. Totally unexpected. I have an R-1050, 1040, L430, R3055, R3045 in fact multiples all properly restored with quality sources and speakers. The R114 is beyond legit.

Agreed....I had an R115 but did not want something that big & heavy....50 WPC, should be plenty ....I got my R114 this year, super clean with remote....hooked up to my vintage Paradigm speakers....sounds amazing....loud & clear....nice tight bass!
 
Whoever thought the R114 is thin cheaped out on the parts. I always go mundorf on the power filters and they sound fantastic. I don’t care what the distractors say power filter cap matter to the sound and you get what you pay for. The L400 is a similar design to the R114 and it hits way above its weight as well.
 
I had an R-113 for a while. At first I liked it, but the more I listened to it, the more "nothing special" it sounded like. I know this is the bottom of the line, and it was not recapped, but in comparison, I have a NAD 712 receiver that, although rated 10 watts less than the Luxman, packs a greater punch and just sounds nicer (again, the Luxman may have needed a recap). Last year, I just missed out on a R-117 on local facebook. I would loved to have gotten a hold of that!

Recap did not change sonic signature much, if at all. Did not like it both ways, sounded too clinical and edgy on two set of speakers, also on the Sennheiser HD-600 - exactly the same thing.



That might be the only point to make a difference sound wise , for just 20 W/ch difference R-115 is way more beefier.
But overall assembly quality is just - Alpine :thumbsdown:

I think with my quality JBL speakers it sounds great…I also have a Sansui G series & 1983 Denon 750 amplifier
