Luxman R-115 receiver or Sansui AU-4900 amp?

There's a Luxman R-115 receiver for sale and I've read a lot of good things about it online and the 70 watts per channel is more than enough for me. I know the R-117 it's big brother is preferable but it's out of my price range and the R-115 isn't.
As the Sansui is only 38 watts per channel I'm assuming the Luxman would have a much better sound. I had a Luxman L-215 amp which I liked a lot but found it similar in sound to the Sansui AU-4900.
Just wondering if the Luxman R-115 sound, would be a lot better than my Sansui?

The Luxman can play both a and b speaker sets at the same time. Limit is they must each be 8Ω speakers or higher to keep the load seen by the amp at 4Ω or higher. The switch puts the speakers a and b in parallel as many do.

A bit of googling that receiver will get you the Flyer, OM and SM on HFE
 
Plus the Luxman has pre-outs that one can connect to a spare tube amp....and you do not have to worry about those annoying pre-out jacks. Its kinda neat being able to switch from receiver to pre-amp by just turning off your speakers.
 
I'd go Luxman, but I'm biased. The nice thing about the Lux is hopefully it has the original remote and as icenine mention the pre-outs give you options. I currently use mine as a pre connected to my M-2000 I've also had it hooked up to my Dynaco ST-70
 
Thanks Dswankey and superdog for your replies and as much as I like Luxman gear, probably not going to get this receiver. One of the reasons I was seriously considering the Luxman, was that I was having problems with a Sony preamp the TA-E2000ESD, that I had bought for it's remote and to run with the Sansui amp. I was getting some static and popping in my left speaker. I took the amp out of my system till, hopefully I figured it out. After a lot of research online, it appears that the analogue input level was not set properly. Since I've done that, fingers crossed I seem to have solved that problem!!
So now buying the Luxman isn't such a necessity, plus it didn't have the remote, solvable I know but still a pain.

Agreed....I had a Lux R115 and it was a quality reciever..with plenty of power.....finding a working remote can be a challenge....I now have a 1981 Sansui G5500. 60 WPC ..also .underrated ...bad ass reciever!

I got the R115 years ago but haven't used it much in the last few years, fortunately I have a remote for it.
 
I really liked my R-115. So much, I bought a 2nd one as a spare but ended up giving it to a friend and now he uses it as a preamp to a bigger amp and really likes it too.
It's only in the closet now because I got my R-1120 fixed, recapped a big Yamaha amp and run them both off a HK preamp now.
70 watts might be enough for most, and do drive low impedance speakers like my Infinities well, but I needed more power.
Anyway, I toss in for a Luxman most any day.
Once you hear the tone and full sound they deliver, headphones or speakers, it really hooks you.

The r117 is very powerfull.I use to drive either first generation KLH six or dynaco a50. I use it for audio listening in my basement setup when I am not using the home theater setup for movies or tv.
