Luxman RR-114a remote—disassembly question

Brand new here—but I’ve already learned so much!

I recently picked up a Luxman TP-114 tuner/pre-amp at a local thrift store for $30. Initially, I could get no sound out of it (via a Rotel RA-870BX amp) but soon discovered the culprit: missing jumper bars (thank you, AK community!). A couple days later, I was thrilled to find the RR-114a remote at the same thrift store ($2.49) but it’s not working with the TP-114.

It’s got fresh batteries and I can see that it’s sending an IR signal by aiming it at my cell phone in “selfie mode” (another slick tip courtesy of the AK community!). I’d like to open it up to clean the contacts but this is where I’m stuck. I’ve removed both screws (located at the IR end of the unit) but I can separate the two halves only about an eighth of an inch, and only at the IR end. I’m reluctant to apply any more force for fear of breaking something. Any suggestions as to what I might be missing?

TIA!

There is quite often a screw under the batteries at the battery end. Don't force it until you know.

I agree completely, @amptramp. I've lost track of the number or times I've inspected this remote—and I cannot find any additional screws. When I try to separate the two halves, it feels like they're attached near the center of the unit. As I indicated in my original post, this is not where I anticipated trouble. I feel like I'm losing my mind...
