The universe is a big place, perhaps the biggest.
Look what came into my world today. Luxman RX-103! Guy I refoamed some speakers for gave it to me for doing a good job. Nice gesture. It's been sitting for awhile and the suckface feature doesn't work. All else seems to.
I'm pretty excited, I've hardly seen Luxman gear let alone own one.

The panel where the controls are moves out when you turn it off, then moves back to reveal them when you turn it on. At least I think that's how it works.
 
Probably needs the belt replaced, should be able to do a search here on AK that has the suitable replacement part number. If you do service the belt, watch out for the little fragile leaf switch that controls the motor mechanism end of rotation setting.

Yeah, I just watched Rosie's tabletop repair of one. Kind of a pia. I have some scratchiness to take care of first, plus some blowout of the cobwebs under hood.

Sounds very nice though. Has a very powerful presence.


Forgot to mention, I have the remote too. I see those are near impossible to find.

Yeah - I fixed it on my old RX-101, a couple tricks involved but pretty straightforward. Also, lubing up the gear mechanism helps to quiet it down as it may scream pretty loud once it's working again without some fresh gear lube.

Cool, I guess. Kinda gimmicky, but it was the early 80s. I like the acrylic buttons, not sure if there's supposed to be any backlight, mine has none but the red indicator lights all work. The display seems crisp and bright, so that's good. Heavy smoker owned, popped the hood and whew!

I got the face to fully retract on its own then disconnected it. The remote actually works, that's impressive!

There may be a bulb underneath / below the buttons ... if you look at my RX-101 you can see the white/blue light underneath / below the buttons. The bulb was blown when I got it, and it may blow a lot because I didn't notice it being operative in most pics I found online.

Edit: Actually from your pic, looks like yours may be working ...

I have one, it's a great tape deck also has DBX noise reduction. Once you hear a dbx tape you'll never go back. The thing with DBX is if you make a DBX tape for a friend they have to have an encoder to play it.
Got mine on a 60% off sale.
 
This one is impressive. Playing through my redone AR 93Qs and damn, what noises! Cymbals are crystal clear, sound like brass; vocals, drums, all of it, very nice. This is a for sure step above most, if not all, of the toys that's crossed my path.

I don't like the speaker connectors, hard to use thicker gauge wire. Sure I can change those though as I work my way through it. True enough, the phono won't work without the suck face working, so guess I'll be addressing that too. Still some slight issues with the balance knob, but a more thorough cleaning and deoxit might take care of that. Otherwise, playing cds ... I'm very impressed. Think I'll grab some coffee and head to the cave to enjoy it some more!
 
I had an RX-102 years ago. It definitely had presence. The retractable face didn't work, but the phono input did. Good luck with the repairs.
Someone else might have a suggestion regarding the installation of five way binding posts on the back of that receiver (there should be enough room for the modification).
 
Also if you run the Luxman through your tape monitor you can play DBX encoded vinyl. My Allman Brothers Live at the Filmore, J. Geils Love Stinks, Cat Steven's Teaser and The Fire Cat and Elton John's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road Dbx encoded albums sound awesome.
It is a quality deck,Luxman's flagship deck. I had a friend who had a Nakamichi Dragon the rolls Royce of cassette decks who I made copies of vinyl for him because my copies were the best he had heard on his deck.

Your phono should work when deck is off. To lube gears on the suck face I use Penn reel lube
