Luxman T-117 Tuner

braxus

FeCr Type III
Well I have a few Luxman tuners already. I have the T-102, T-404 (T-100 variant), and the T-111. Anyway I recently made a purchase on a used T-117. I've read its one of Luxman's best tuners. It even beats the old Magnum Dynalab MD-101 tuner. How does the 117 compare to other better tuners out there? Its obviously not going to be a Marantz 10B, but just wondering on other options. Im wondering why this one little tuner was the only digital tuner Luxman made that was worth consideration, especially compared to the T-102, etc.

Luxman made tuners to go with their amplifiers and preamps. Luxman was a transformer company when started in 1925 and that lead directly to amplification since tube units use a good bit of iron. That lead to transistors as times changed. So they make great amplification. Nowhere in there did I mention they are a great tuner company. I leave that to Kenwood/Trio a company that made some of the best shortwave equipment ever produced. A long history of building devices that can tune. This lead to great AM/FM tuners from Kenwood.

Luxman made a few tuners that are considered good or better, the T-117 you have, the T-110 and a smattering of others. Many of their offerings were just 'matching' units for their other gear, though.

Hook that 117 up and let us know how you like it and how it compares to the other tuners you have.

It a good tuner, better than most of the other Luxman tuners.

Nice to learn that about Kenwood. Maybe I shouldn't get rid of mine just yet :)

I have the european version of the 117 and it's my favorite tuner. It doesn't pull the best or have the great noise quieting features that a yamaha might have, but for sound...man does it make FM sound fantastic..I really love it.

I had a T-117 and it blew away my Dynalab MD-101 and a few others. I only sold the T-117 when I acquired a Pioneer F-26, however the T-117 lives on my R-117 receiver, which has the same excellent tuner section.

Same here...Have this in R-117...I have Modded 2 Yamaha T-85's (One with Nichicon FG,KG(Big Can) and the other Elna Silmic II, Nichicon KG(Big Can)...and Heavy Modded a Kenwood KT-7500.

The R-117 tuner is nice...But what I have modded...It just a tuner.

Hi, I am looking at a Luxman TP-117 and wonder whether the tuner section is the same as the T-117? Thanks to anyone who can please tell me the answer!

How many times are you going to ask this question which has been answered a number of times even in other forums, “they are not the same”
