LX-626's AWH-002 setting bias, bass & treble set to flat? Volume to 0?

Hi.

I've just finished overhauling an LX-626 receiver, and I was about to button it up after setting the bias on the AWH-002 (it's the same as in the SX-626).

The actual process is described in detail here in AudioKarma (for example http://audiokarma.org/forums/index....t-bias-offset-on-sx-626-early-version.738142/ ), but while doing a similar procedure on another SX-550 the respective instructions clearly indicate that both bass and treble knobs should be set to flat positions.

This left me wondering. Should I have set bass and treble to flat on the LX? The volume was set to 0. Is this correct?

You want all controls set to flat, OFF, or Center EXCEPT Volume which goes to lowest setting. Bias is also referred to as IDLE Current in old tube gear. No Source INPUT (ie: Aux with NO cables connected to source jacks.) You want the setting to be disturbed or affected by NO SIGNAL of any type so that the adjustment is a true idling bias adjustment. Setting all controls as above does this. This goes for all Solid State and tube gear.

I've been reading more about this and I may have a problem on the AWH-002. After setting the bias I checked the speaker terminal DC voltage and they read about 384 mV. I think this is too high. My speakers seem to work properly but nevertheless I thought I should ask.

I'll keep the system off until this is clarified. Any help welcome :)
 
If there is nothing on the speaker terminals except for the meter, when the unit is on, there will be a voltage at the terminals. This is normal. If you have speakers connected and they show higher than a couple mv then something is definately wrong. Capacitor coupled units must have speakers or a resistive (Dummy) load attached when setting bias, as this loads down the circuit properly allowing you to set the bias correctly.
 
Thank you very much, Larry. I'd done the bias setting with dummy loads but had already removed them when I took the speaker voltages.

When loaded the voltages are about 0.1 mV.
