Pulled this guy out the depths of unloved vintage gear. Been listening to for the last day.

Here is the history... in about 2014 I use to troll around here and drool over gear. One picture caught my eye... Cogsinster's LXI.

His unit had the digital + traditional dial... and 75 WPC. At that time, I thought It would be fun to collect house brand units toward the middle / upper end of their offering.

Rat Shack = STA2100/STA2000
Service Merchandise = MCS 3253
Playback = Project/One (never got one)
Sears = LXI

RIP = Cogsinster.

I elected to buy this unit.... 50 WPC. This is when I learned about STK packs. Lucky for me this had original STK-0050 II that were working.

After this purchase, I tried to stay way for STK pack units due to their obsolescence - with one exception RS-2010.

564 = means Sanyo (who at the time owned Fisher).

This unit has Sanyo boards, Sanyo Caps, and Sanyo Power STKs - a real in-house effort for Sanyo. These STK-0050(II) are very similar to the SX-780 unit that Pioneer sold billions of.

With the inception of @rcs16 ingenious STK-50 rebuild.... I think this a good candidate for a conversion in the future. Want to share my recap and LED updates to this very under the radar unit.

This recap was three years ago... in my early days of playing with new electros and films. Not really well documented = can bet on like for like swaps, but all caps where changed and installed LEDs.

Did bump the filter caps up a notch... and installed some 1 uF bypass caps.

How does she sound = very nice indeed. How does she look = you decide.

If you are looking to practice a recap, this model might be good unit to hone your skill. I am sure you will be impressed with the results if you are successful.

Very nice. LXI is under appreciated!

I’ve got the 9257 Model. It puts out 16 watts based on the STK power packs inside. It’s a fine enough receiver for my home office. It’s currently driving a pair of KLH 22s.

Thread resurrection! Agreed, LXI definitely runs under the radar of most - bought this 564.9257 about a year ago from a guy on CL. Thought it was a Sanyo build from the late 70s, well worth $20 - and he had the original receipt plus owners manual to boot. Simple, stylish, and listed at $269 in ‘79. Probably entry level, but not inexpensive. Huge demerit for their lack of creativity in model numbering, at least MCS utilized cool and understandable marantz like model designations.

For a short time I worked part time at a SEARS service center in Mary Ester , Florida... Repaired more LXI than I cared to. All there service data was on microfiche. What a PITA....

I’ve been to the Sears at Santa Rosa mall in Mary Esther many times back in the 90s, small world. Curious what was your most common repair of these units, STKs?
