Hi all, I'm new to the forum and am hoping for some direction. First, I'm not an audio technician but have always some sort of ht setup... Mostly klipsch or more recently Martin Logan theater in a box type things. Recently, I found 4 m&k speakers for what appeared to be a steal. There were 2 s-100s that I was planning to run for fronts and 2 s-3bs that I was planning to run for rears. A couple of questions:
Overall thoughts on this plan? Any gotchas?
Has anyone had experience with these speakers.?
What resources would you recommend for selecting an appropriately spec'd center channel?

I did some Googling since there had not been any replies yet (not uncommon when a post is first made) so it might take a little time for someone familiar with them to stop by. Best I can figure is they are old, might have been relatively expensive when new, and may have been designed as a home theater type system.
Based only on the appearance of the S-100 (I had difficulty finding an image that would give me a sense of scale/size so I'm thinking not that big) and GUESSING the s-3b's are smaller a subwoofer might be needed depending on the OP's listening preferences.
 
Thank you. The 100s have two 5.25 and 3 tweeters. They are probably 14x14x10. They are small. The s3s are satellites and even smaller. Both sets/models are pretty old but sound amazing. I have a sub already.
The s100s were the predecessor to the s150b which, according to my research, is a studio monitor fand was the first thx certified speaker. The s100 design is very similar to the s150
 
If you have them you might as well try hooking them up, maybe in temporary positions just to see if you like them.
I assume you are used to front/rear/sub(?) setups as you mentioned you've always had some sort of HT setup previously so that would give you an idea of what you like sound wise and if the M &K's are better than what you've got and if they'd be good for your main or a secondary system. First impressions can vary so might be wise to listen to them for a week or two before making a final decision.
As a generality I think many speaker lines often have similar voicing amongst themselves, so an M & K center channel from around the same time period might work well. Maybe check ebay, hifishark. kijii etc for that.

imo, you can't do much better then M&K, especiallly for satellite/sub speakers.

enjoy them! they are top notch, used in the original THX standard for theaters.
