MA 5100 Transistors

Hey everyone, great to be here!

My MA5100 has developed a crackle when warm (left channel). Freeze spray pinpoints the fault to Q209 (PNP driver), so the course of action is to replace a few small signal transistors on both channels, as a precautionary measure. All good so far.

I have been in touch with the local McIntosh dealer who wants to charge 5€ for each transistor, so I was wondering if anyone has the equivalents for:

(board reference, MC part number)
Q209, 132-032
Q205, 132-021
Q203, 132-029

There is a list of subs somewhere here on AK. I've looked around a bit and can't find it. It's here somewhere.

Do some searching. I will try and find it later tonight.

The local Mac dealer wouldn't share this information and charged 5€ for -each- replacement tranny. What a rip-off.

For anyone having the same issue in the future: some of the transistors on that manual are obsolete nowadays.
Some possible subs with current technology are,

132-021 -> MPSA06
132-032 -> MPSA55
132-029 -> BC556B

Some of those MPS transistors are also end of life. You can use KSA992 (PNP) and KSC1845 (NPN) for almost any of the small signal transistors and KSA1220 (PNP) and KSC2690 (NPN) for anything that requires a bit more power, like a driver.

Hi Nico, do you know the posible subs for:

Q211,212 (Q21,22) 132-515=132-028 2N3738 -> ?
Q213,214 (Q29,30) 132-521=132-023 2N3767 -> ?
Q215,216 (Q27,28) 132-527=132-024 2N3741 -> ?
Q217,218 132-533=132-070 2N5303 -> ?
Q219,220 132-533=132-070 2N5303 -> ? (Maybe an error in Service Manual, same number)

Just want to thank you for publishing this McIntosh transistor substitution list. I'm currently troubleshooting a MC-5100.

Hey all, I'm looking for a replacement for "132-527". I searched the forums via search box and this is the only post that I could find. Was this ever solved?
