Mac 4100 FM woes

Damage

Super Member
Hi All!

I got an excellent deal on a Mac 4100 from a fellow AKer. However, it suddenly developed a problem that maybe someone else has run into. When in FM mode (only) one channel is quite and lacks any base. Almost like a bad cap or something... If I push the mono button both channels work. So it must be somewhere inside the FM chip???

Any ideas?

Thanks!

I had the same problem with mine & it turned out to be the connector that comes out of the FM multiplex had come loose. My tech cleaned & reattached it & it works fine now.

Just a little note for posterity. The Mac 4100 FM section is like a Computer card and plugs into something like an ISA slot. I cleaned the connections and the problem went away.

Hit the tuner plug in connector with a good shot of DeOxit D5, power off, 3 mounting screws, pull and spray... this usually cures 95% of the 4100 FM problems.
