Mac 4100 - no FM MPX

Just acquired a fairly clean Mac 4100 receiver. Everything seems to work quite well except the FM section. All kinds of noise when moving between stations (found references to this "noisy tuner syndrome" by searching here) but no reference to the other problem I have. I flat out have no Stereo reception on FM. Station tunes in, locks in but the signal is strictly monaural.

Anyone here ever run up against this issue?

Real drag. Of course the fleabay seller sold as "tested and works perfect". Yeah right.

You haven't provided enough information for comment.
Did you hook it up to an antenna? Do you have another tuner that performs properly under the same conditions?
I say this because if I were to disconnect my FM antenna, I'd get mostly mono reception due to weak signal strength.
Also, does the seller have a return policy? If not, you may be protected by Ebay's seller protection policy. I collected on it once myself for a misrepresented item.

Yes on both. The conditions are just fine, it's the tuner, I guarantee it.

No return policy but that actually doesn't matter. ebay will still get your money back for you. I've been through it before myself. A few times. Just trying to get an idea of what it might cost to get the thing right if I were to get a partial refund out of the guy. Returning is a huge PITA and I will still be out of pocket on the return shipping no matter what. Otherwise the unit is quite nice, I'd get it repaired if there was a reasonable expectation it wouldn't be a huge money pit. If it's a matter of recapping a board or a couple of components, I could work with that.

Hi,

Did you by chance happen to figure out the issue? Seems I now have an issue with mine as well. Symptoms are quite similar except my center meter is completely dead as well.:scratch2:
