MAC 4280 Left channel issue

I picked up a clean MAC 4280 Receiver recently and it works great except for occasionally the Left channel will intermittently go in and out. If I fiddle with the volume and turn it up and down it usually will work. I've read that this is common. Wondering if there's an easy fix. Any help would be appreciated. The 4280 doesn't seem to have the best reputation.. but I'm happy with it. When it works it sounds great! Bad rep or not it's still a Mcintosh!

Connect the pre out, main in with a patch cord. The make/break RCA jacks have been unreliable (due to corrosion) compared to the older school horseshoe jumpers.
