Mac C28

So i found a McIntosh C28 at a local record/vintage audio store. They want 500 for it and the tag says "with service". The employee says its the owners who deal with the gear and couldnt tell me much more about it, or the "service". Im certainly digging my just aquored Little Bear T11, and the Mac is an SS pre...but that "Rolex" vibe has got a slight hook in me. I can return the LB for almost half the price of the Mac...but should I?

Keep both and do some comparisons first. You need to realize that the C28 should be updated to sound it’s best....

I'm not in the McIntosh tax bracket TBH. My SO saw my eyes light up and literally offered to pick it up and pay her back. She's that great. Also makes the lions share of the household money. Doesn't care a whit for audiophilia, but knows it's my thing... So if I did let her do it, I could get it on Monday, the LB would be returned the same day.

Damn it. It ended up being a "something is wrong with it, but I'm not sure what" type of deal. The seller would take my $500 and send the unit to be serviced. IF anything "expensive" was needed to get it running, that would come out of my pocket. From what I understand, EVERYTHING on a Mac is expensive. So, I just recently got a new, and very decent, tube preamp. I may not get the Rolex branding, but then again, maybe I wouldn't have really liked the sound anyway.
