It took a lot of courage and a deep breath, but I purchased a MAC6700 last week from AudioClassics. Got a very good price on a unit in decent but not tip-top cosmetic shape, but A-1 electronically, and it came with the much preferred TU2 HD tuner module. The unit arrived late yesterday expertly packed and none the worse for the UPS trip. Unpacked it just by myself (it is Heavy, did I say Heavy?), hoisted it up onto its spot, hooked my Marantz CD player into coax digital, and my Grace Digital Internet tuner into optical digital inputs, wired the Klipsch Chorus II speakers (with new Crites crossovers and tweeter drivers) into the 4 ohm speaker inputs, and have been checking it out. Early next week, I'll add a blue tooth receiver into the AUX for streaming.
The MAC replaced a Marantz PM7005 now for sale on local CraigsList. As for the MAC, I'm very happy with it. No buyer's remorse.
Most unexpected surprise -- the wonderful AM reception despite being in a brick apartment building facing pretty much in the wrong direction for any decent signal.
This MAC has pretty much closed the book for me on purchases for the system. As has been said over and over by others, the unit is so damn listenable.
So thank you to Audio Classics for guidance and a price I could handle. For me, the MAC6700 is way preferable to the new MAC7200 because of the wonderful TU2 HD module. HD reception, on both FM AND AM is an extra bonus delight.
For me, by the way, the MAC6700 joins an MA5200 and MR88 both installed in my office system. All providing outstanding performance and service.
