Mach 1 vs Heresy

I started noticing Radio Shack stuff when I was a teenager in the early '80s. I would get the catalog every year and check out the flyers in every Sunday paper. My conclusion from that observation then, and from my much broader experience now, is that Radio Shack gear and especially speakers ranged from reasonable to a nice deal at their catalog prices. Nothing that earth shattering.

But.....(there's always a but) nearly every damn piece went on sale at least twice a year and the sale price ranged from about 25-35% off the regular price. That made their stuff a down right bargain.

Also, during the years I haunted Radio Shack, their product line changed often and when it did, all the old stuff went at progressive clearance prices. I remember getting a $200 pair of speakers (at catalog price) for $40. Sometimes the reason for a clearance sale was just stupid. When I paid less than half price for my Mach Twos, the only difference between my pair and the pair a few feet away that was full price was that pair had an Optimus badge and my pair had Realistic. That's when Radio Shack stuff was a great deal.

The "Where is-as is" sales table at Radio Shack is where I bought my LAB-440 turntable with a decent Share cartridge for 65 bucks in 1984. My first real TT purchase. Nice reminder. Now back to the thread topic...

I can't count the number of things I have purchased over the years as "demo models"--this includes electronics, autos, and even all of the stainless steel appliances in my kitchen (they were in the model home of a new development and never used)--but the new owner wanted black. Deep discounts if you are in the right place at the right time.

I have Hereseys sitting on top of Cornwalls, Cornys for music and Hereseys iis and PSB sub for HT.
Both do their jobs extremely well! I must say the sound from Hereseys and sub is similar to being in the theater!
I also have Realistic Optimus 5B's (VL modded) and they hold their own with much higher end speakers, they are doing bedroom duty at this time along side a set of PSB Stratus Golds, I would compare the 5b's to the PSB's !
