i own a set of the 4024a earlier mach one's, but wanted to know because i've passed by so many 4029's that were for sale over the years, was this a mistake?, i've been seeing more about these being restored or updated?, wanted to get others opinions..................old 2080

The 4024A models had the foam surrounds that do not rot, the 4029's had ferrofluid liquid in the mids and tweeters. I have both models and prefer the 4024A's, but either model can shine with the mods we have applied to them. I think the 4024A had a better sound because of the difference in the crossovers.

I'm with Steve on this one. Have two more pair to work on, though they're the 4029 variety.

so does this mean that the 4029 version shouldn't be over looked?, found a couple pair listed on c-list, one guy thinks they're worth gold, the other set listed will need surrounds and some light sanding and staining on the cabinets, but only wants 65. for his, i've got quite a few projects now and i'm considering the first set even with the higher price tag but the work has already been done, it sounds to me that these 4029's should not be over looked...............:music:

They are not rare, and only if your looking for more Mach 1's would I grab them. They pop up for sale quite often.

Mach speakers I typically buy, unless over priced or seriously abused. I fix them up, as best I can, and (now) flip the ones that don't perform as well as other Mach speakers. Recently unloaded my 4024a speakers, but mostly due to fairly damaged cabinets. My 4029 models are much better shape. I'd have a tough time justifying more than $100 for a pair, and they'd have to be near mint at that (cabinets). All drivers functional a must.
