So, picked up some MG1 improved at an estate sale maybe 18 months ago. Used them as my primary sounded quite good. Maybe 4 months ago they really degraded so I figured I would need to re-wire, took one apart, they actually look great inside Mylar is solid very very little greenish corrosion, (2 places where the low end wire is out of the grove, no breaks) they must have already been done.
that said, they do sound bad nothing like they should. Does have what I believe is the original 20uF capacitor... I played an audio frequency sweep from iTunes, completely shuts down around 8300hz nothing after.
I could clip the capacitor out and test it but a bit confused...I believe the low pass/ high pass is around 1600 - first order. Wouldn’t the freq cut out considerably sooner if the high end had nothing?
Appreciate thoughts on what I am missing. b
