Magic for under $200?

Just one of those lucky combinations! I was just poking around on C.L. locally for a spell trying to put a cheap stereo together for girlfriends second residence. She being more focused on esthetics, it had to be unobtrusive. I put together an old Onkyo TX 21 and a pair of ADS L400s and magic happened. (I added an old sub I have been dragging around for a decade, it's even in the next room!) The setup fit together perfectly with each other and the room! Perfect soundstage almost anywhere in the room, even in the dogs chair behind the ADSs, but naturally the stereo is reversed. I spent so much more on my personal near field at home with only a slight improvement to this set. Magic can happen, this is far better then it has any right to be. Is it just my good Audiokarma, or have any of you had this happen? So many times we try so hard to get it right and here I wasn't trying at all, just hoping to get the minimum music requirements. (Naturally she feels it is my superior knowledge and expertise that created the success, she doesn't read these posts.)

Onkyo and ADS, two brands you read about being great sounding units of all sizes all over ak. Nice set up for sure.

Do what you have to, to keep her thinking that way and you'll be on easy street. I have a '63 FISHER Executive in Italian Provincial that my late wife despised. Almost 3 years now and I'm engaged and my Fiancee loves it. It pretty much matches the antiques she has in the house, centerpiece in the living room, and really can't get enough of the sound. There is an Audio god, and I sacrifice Chinese junk monthly, LOL! She turned over the basement to me for my collection of Stereo and Mono consoles, and 60's/70's gear. I overhauled her late Mother's Admiral and that is now in the basement (in the Laundry area where she listens to it while doing laundry) vs. the storage unit. She's not so enamored of my separates or receivers, but ya can't have everything.

"Sweet Pea" thinks it's all human noise anyway. High-fi to her is when the bowl hit's the floor!
(or mama pulls in the driveway.)

I was expecting good sound, but not this much imaging. So happy to be surprised!
