Magnat All Ribbon 8 tweeter issue

I am not that familiar with this type of tweeters, so I hope someone can help me decide what to do.
I have a really good offer, half average price but the problem is I cannot check them personally, it`s online sale.

The seller sent me a video with sound demo but again it`s hard to say if there is any difference between two tweeters. It sounds good but .....
He claims that everything work perfectly. Also he claims that there is no damage inside the tweeter.
Is this membrane or whatever damaged enough to affect the sound quality.
If not, I am not bothered with aesthetics as long as it works properly.

Any advice very much appreciated!

Doesn't look like a ribbon to me.

Damaged metal dome (Fractured) tweeter.

And there is no way that doesn't sound bad!

I am just not familiar with this type of tweeter but I do own All Ribbon 4, fantastic speakers!
I simply do not know what that silver material is? And to what extent it affects sound....
From my experience, dented dust caps most of the time have absolutely no effect on sound quality, depends on how bad the damage is.
In this case I am not sure since it looks like it is broken, missing piece .....that`s another story.
The owner says, I do not trust him 100%, that there is no difference between two speakers ......

Ribbon 8 Just appears to be just a Brand or Model name.

Searched and checked out hundreds of photos.

If it's an ribbon it looks and works different than the 50... 60 ribbons I've owned over the past 35 years.

Unless is less than 100$ I'd PASS...

These are German speakers so there’s potential loss in translation. I believe all ribbon refers to the flat edge-wound voice coil wire used in this series of drivers (the coil wire looks a bit like a ribbon).

Magnat often used aluminium diaphragms, so the picture indicates very bad damage.

Flat or "Edge Wound" like JBL is excellent. Love this kind of stuff.~~!

Tweeter is Busted Metal dome... Shrill sounding anyway...

That tweeter is compromised. Off axis response would likely be wonky. I would also worry about voice coil damage. Can you find a used tweeter where you live?

The All Ribbon series uses flat (ribbon) wire for the voice coils. No ribbon-type drivers involved.

Those tweeters are very detailed to the point of sounding etched. They do occasionaly show up on the auction site, more frequently in the German one (replace .com with .de) - could search there.

I had a pair of Magnat 4 way dipoles here a few years ago. The reason they're no longer here is because of their tweeters. I really wanted to like them but those tweeters just didn't agree with me for long term listening.

I am speculating here but the reason might be your amp?
I use only vintage receivers from 70/80's predominantly and paired with some warm sounding receiver from that era, Magnat All Ribbon 4 simply sound fantastic!
Highs and mids are spectacular. No harshness if you set your treble/bass properly.
Suffice to say that some hi end Dahlquist speakers use Magnat drivers.

Same applies to Canton GLE 70 that I also have. Very similar speakers, German engineering rocks!

Just to clarify something here .... since you jumped with your conclusion.
First of all, in case you missed, I said that I DO OWN Magnat Ribbon All 4 speakers, so there is not need to search for photos in order to confirm it.
This is a German brand called MAGNAT.
You probably cannot see the white label says: All Ribbon Wire Technology.

They were rotation speakers so multiple amps got used on them in 2 different room. The end result was always the same. They were nothing like a pair of Cantons or Braun 810's that also passed through here which both had very smooth top ends.

I do not hear much difference in high end between Canton GLE 70 and Magnat Ribbon 4.
My only remark regarding Cantons is that they should have used bigger cabinet, in the case of GLE 70 , which is 10" woofer, the cabinet is too small, depends on music style, low end can be a bit boomy which is not the case with Magnat with 8" woofer in perfectly designed cabinet.
Overall both great speakers!

On the other hand, I used to have Braun L710 and L810, both of them had tiny bit harsher highs than Canton/Magnat
Again, depends on amp/receiver. Overall, I do not like sound from modern amps, not natural, no warmth etc ..... but that`s just personal preference......
