Magnavox 196 AA schematic anyone?

Today I diverted an early 1960s TV/AM/FM console on its way to the dump. The guy told me it was his grandfather's but he had no room to keep it any longer. He said the radio and record changer worked but not the TV. So, we unloaded it from his pickup and into my Outback. Since I have no room at home, I've been forced to part her out.

It has the 196 AA amp, Tuner is labled 59 06 AA, and the turntable is a Custom Magnavox Collaro Conquest Model F200C. I plan to go through the amp, but after spending hours searching for a schematic for this model, I've come up empty handed. Does anyone have a copy?

I think this may have come from the Yahoo Magnavox group...

Thanks Tom! I attempted to join the yahoo group what seems like hours ago but haven't been accepted into their ranks yet! :worried:

Do you have any idea what the differences are between the 196 AA and the 196 OO designations, if any?

magnavox 196aa

I keep finding references to this being single-ended, yet I see two tubes which would imply push-pull and magnavox was usually push-pull. I have a very simple schematic that will work for it and it sounds good. It works for EL84 and 6V6, the only diff is the cathode resistor. I used it on a heathkit EL84 cause I couldn't figure out what was wrong with it. I eventually just rewired it with this schematic and it sounds sweet.

If you want the schematic, let me know.

Actually, it is single ended! If you look closely, it is a stereo amplifier where it only uses one (single ended) 6BQ5 tube per channel. Because it is stereo, it has one 6BQ5 tube that drives the left speaker, and one 6BQ5 tube that drives the right speaker.

If it were a stereo push/pull amplifier, it would have four 6BQ5 tubes. Two 6BQ5 tubes in push/pull for the left channel, and two 6BQ5 tubes in push/pull for the right channel.

But........this thread is 4 years old! I know one person on this thread that is still active.

Hi, First Post!!!!!

I just bought a portable Maggie with a Collaro in it. I'm trying to figure out how to adjust the tracking force, what year it is and a couple of other things.

I already have another mono portable 1957 Maggie with a V-M in it as well. I think I have a problem..............
