Magnavox 8301 Mods

I can't help with the tone controls or the phono, but as far as volume pot
anything from 470K down to say 50K would work, 100K is just a good size.

I recently went through one of these, I'm posting the "original" schem with all the
bass/treble/balance/cartridge stuff out, an what I did + suggested and volume pot
installed for what your after on the "updated" one. (I have other plans for mine). :naughty:

This is not a "mod" but more just streamlined the original circuit, there is better. ;)
I've been reading your posts. Very helpful. I just picked up an 8302. Is this the same as the 8301? Will all the mods apply as well? Thanks. Sam.

Oh the fbk comp cap.

It got taken out with the balance pot.
(to put it back in you'd need to tweak it with a scope, and I'd start with 100pf and go from there)

Cool, glad you figured it out,

Yah 1 of those just shows the basic schem, the other is the cleaned up version with all the crap taken out.. :)

I'm thinking I should replace the caps that are marked RMC .01 Z5U. Do you agree? Is so, what is a good replacement?

I have absolutely no idea what cap that is,

But, If you follow the schematic I posted it has all the cap values on it that I'd use and suggest.

good afternoon... i hate to resurrect an old thread, but this seems like a good place for my question.. i have 8303 i salvaged and in the process of restoring it. I plan on doing most of the mods mentioned here and use it as a stand alone for the time being.. I have a question though.. i notice that all the resistors are +/-20%, would there be any advantage or disadvantage to replacing these with a tighter tolerance say 5% or even 1%? Thanks for any info.. Also been lurking on this thread for a week or so.. Thanks to all those that have worked on putting this info together..
