Magnavox 8802 Volume Pot Issue

Newbie here,

I tried wiring a dual 100k volume pot in my Magnavox unit. I am not sure what I did wrong. When I turn the volume higher on the pot the unit goes haywire. Low volume music plays fine. Please see pictures. Any help appreciated

It looks like it's wired wrong. You need to remove the green & yellow wires (yellow circle) completely. Put the red lined wires in their old spots (center lugs) of the pot. Disconnect the red lined wires completely from the RCA input jacks.

What it looks like to me is that you still have the inputs coming from the RCA jacks still connected to the 6EU7 inputs along with the pot. They need to be separated.

agree. What you're doing is bypassing those 47k resistors when the pot is turned up and its causing stability problems. Those resistors must be there to control HF response and keep the amp happy. They need to go to the center lugs of the pot, not the RCA jacks.
 
Thanks guys. It worked. I am using this to power ESS AMT speakers. However the volume is not that loud. I have put the 390k resistors in as you can see from the previous pictures. Will I just need a preamp? Thanks
