A nice man pulled a working Maggie out of his console and offered it to me for $80. I felt bad about this since he's unlikely able to sell the console now, but the amp does work, and looks to have the original tubes. I posted about the console here before and it seemed steep $$. But how does 80 for just the amp sound?

I would give that I love mine. Mine has been recapped and all redone everything painted, added new RCA jacks, powet switch, binding posts and pilot light. It was all done by jcricket he is amazing if you are thinking refurb contact him. I play mine daily, it sounds so good.

Could mods and upgrades boost the WPC on this puppy?

And WOW Amcrebelfan! Those pics alone make me want to buy it.

Nope, you're looking at 12W of sweet tube sounds! I love mine very much, but it seems like it rolls off around 60hz. Could be cause i have original caps in mine though.

I payed $80 for mine with the stipulation that i would leave the console behind. So not a bad deal at all!

EDIT: The gentleman has offered the preamp for 10. Not sure if the preamps in the Maggie console are any good. I'm hoping to drive the amp with a vintage onkyo receiver, which has a nice phono stage. So unless you all think the Maggie pre is worth grabbing, I'll likely pass.

The magnavox preamp is nothing to write home about. It doesn't have a mag phono stage either. The amplifier is the better part of that package IMO.

The preamp might have decent tubes that would be worth more than $10... just sayin.

And of course I did not think of that. :sigh:

Anyway, drove up this evening and picked it up from a nice gentleman with a basement full of stellar consoles, vinyl, TTs, old vintage radios, and his own wood-working and soldering room. More pics on the tube audio forum. Thanks for the input!
