I just inherited this Magnavox Belvedere from approximately 1951, woodwork in pretty fine condition. Are needles still available to purchase anywhere to use the phono? And any idea of the value? Photos are a scroll or two down on this post. We turned it on, but were not able to find any stations, may need an antenae? So maybe if anyone has any info on that it would be helpful too.

A couple of things, yes needles can still be purchased, your pictures did not show up in your post so if you can post a picture of the current cartridge with needle the more knowledgeable will be able to assist as to what you need to look for and where
You asked about value back in May in your initial thread, not much has changed since then depending on condition maybe a Ben Franklin to someone who is looking specifically for mono

Thanks, I didn't even think about how the needle is replaced, found this cartridge which looks to be in pretty rough shape. No needle tho. And no apparent markings as to replacement number either.

If I remember correctly, the stylus just pulls out from the center, friction held.
The replacement is a Pfanstiehl 556.
That was called the tilt cartridge and I am pretty sure it is a crystal cartridge and
most likely would be dead by now. You best bet would be to replace it with
a modern ceramic cartridge wired for mono.

Wow, thanks! I was picturing a needle more like the record players I had, just a vertical pin. But it's been a really long time since I had a record player at all.
Good question. What would a stereo record sound like in mono, just bass or treble? Wonder what the dividing point is...
