Dug this out of my garage, picked it up at a garage sale a while back--damned it it doesn't work, and beautifully at that, once it had warmed up. Any thoughts on this guy? Very retro, even if it plays digital media.

An early Philips-based player with dual 14-bit TDA1540D DAC's... probably not the equal of later 16-bit machines in that family, but they sound surprisingly good. I'd rather listen to that machine than some early 16-bit stuff (and did quite a bit as my original Tandberg 3015A was based on the same DAC design and very similar CDM pickup).

These machines like to be used regularly, the CDM-0 can get cranky about spinning up to speed if it sits unused a lot.

I need someone who knows something about this machine (ha ha--thanks for the analysis, interesting). Yeah, initially it couldn't spin the CD, I almost gave up on it and was going to dispose of it, waited a bit longer, then it started working, apparently that's characteristic of this machine--read somewhere that this issue can be fixed, but fixing it can cause other damage if not done just so.

AK member Tinman is a wizard on these machines and the CDM transport & associated tendencies.
